Faster, faster, faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death.
~Hunter Thompson
Today was a good day. The sun was shining brightly, the weather was warm, and most everyone seemed to be in a happy mood. After classes this afternoon, I did a few odds and ends and then went to supper with a friend. After supper, Adam took me on another motorcycle ride. (Note: the pictures above). It was so wonderful. Adam and I sometimes like to just get on the bike and take rides wherever, it really is wonderful 'thinking' time. You're together, yet alone in your thoughts, as it is most difficult to carry on a conversation with the noise of the wind. Tonight, we drove to Leavenworth. I had never been on a big highway before with him. Usually we take the back/country roads. Now, most people know that I often say I'm going to be a NASCAR driver when I'm behind the wheel. I LOVE speed. Admittedly, I have slowed down a bit on my driving (speeding tickets will do that to you), but there is something exciting about fast cars, fast rollercoasters...fast anything. While Adam is a wonderful and safe driver, on the highway speed is a must to keep up with traffic. Today, that thrill is something I needed. For an hour I was riding with Adam and completely alone in my thoughts and enjoying the speed. It was much needed time to think, contemplate, and to just 'be' in the fresh air. I love motorcycles--but there are only a few I will ride with. My two cousins and Adam. I have to completely trust the person who is driving to get on. Motorcycles are dangerous---but they are so wonderful when maturely driven. After getting back from the ride about 8pm tonight, Abby and I went for a walk around A-town. For an hour, we had the world to ourselves; talking about life, the future, relationships, graduation, and all the emotions the rollercoaster of emotions we are both experiencing as seniors. The night sky was gorgeous and the conversation was heart to heart--this whole day has been a gift and I am grateful.
