Today was a rather low-key day for me. I didn't intend for it to be, but it ended up that way. I went to the fabric store in hopes of finding what I needed to finish up a project I am working on and, unfortunately, they were out of what I needed. So...that kaboshed that idea. So...I went out to join my Grandparent's at their car show. They have been part of Central Chevy Club of Iowa since 1983. Their club has old cars & restored cars that go to shows, contests, etc. My Grandparents used to have two 1957s. However, they sold their convertible (MUCH TO MY DISMAY), but they still have the hardtop. They bought this car new in 1957 & it was used as the family car for many years. My Grandpa has kept it all this time. The colors & everything are the same from when they bought it, though they have been restored to keep it looking perfect. Dad & a couple of his friends joined us for a bit. There is always a DJ with 50's music & HyVee comes & grills out. Its a good time. I've known the other members of the club for quite some time, most of them since I was born. I grew up traveling with my Grandparent's to car shows & participating in their hula-hoop contests at their own car show. I have fond memories of the car club. Especially a show we took the '57 to in Omaha--it was quite a fun weekend & I have always loved the music of that era! I was looking around at their friends in the club today & realized that most of them have been a part of the big events of my life since I can remember. They are a great group! I didn't last too long--today wasn't my best of days & I was ready to be home.
My Grandpa's 1957Troy (my adopted lil' brother) & me @ the Car Show
I came home, intending to get things done, & ended up crashing. I must have slept until my Grandparent's arrived home at 5 because the next thing I new I heard the dog barking & my Grandpa pulling in the drive. WHOOPS! I have to say I rather enjoy Sunday naps, however. Not too long after the tornado sirens went off & the weatherman told us to seek shelter. I walked outside to look at the sky & noticed that several of our neighbors were out looking around as well & talking about how they should probably go to the basement since the sirens were on! It made me LAUGH! Obviously the storms were not scaring many of us! (SMILE) It lasted for awhile & finally let up! We had more winds & rain than anything--it was fun to watch & I love listening to the rain beating on the windows. I used to run crying to the basement everytime they even said tornado WATCH--now I'm outside in the warnings! haha. Guess I've grown up--but my Grandpa says I've grown "stupid." haha!
I have to say I didn't get much accomplished today, but I sure did enjoy a lazy Sunday. It is, afterall, a day of rest, right? Hope everyone had a great weekend!
Some of the clouds before the strong winds & heavy rain came at us!
